Retinol blinding protein (RBP) is a kind of small protein secreted by liver in plasma. It was first isolated in 1968 by Kanai et al., and in 1971 by Peterson and Beeggard from urine.

RBP4 is A secreted RBP in retinol-binding protein family, which is composed of 181 amino acids with a molecular weight of 21KD. It is a carrier protein with a single peptide chain, and has a specific site to bind a molecule of vitamin A. It can transport vitamin A from liver to target organs and realize intracellular transport and metabolism of vitamin A.

RBP has A short half-life and is a specific transporter of vitamin A in blood, which can reflect the disease status of the body sensitively. In the past, RBP was considered to be a sensitive index for early diagnosis and curative effect observation of renal diseases.
